We had another prescribed burn at work last weekend - the first of the year. Here are a couple videos I shot during the burn. This took place after 7 PM, so the low light made the flames stand out beautifully.
We burn to control some invasives, but also to keep the grassland open. Additionally, some native species thrive when fire is introduced - they evolved with fire and sometimes need fire in order to reproduce. So, on many different levels fire is an important tool for land stewardship.
Anybody bring marshmallow? Are you burning to get rid of invasives, or just to keep the area open for grassland plants?
