Ouch! Just looking at that photo makes me itch and burn. I was just up at Pyramid Lake near Schroon and was surprised to find the woods nearly free of the nasty critters. I thought they might have come and gone early, just like so many wildflowers have this spring.
We were up in and around Lake Placid this weekend and didn't find the black flies too bad. I only got 2-3 bites. Admittedly, I was wearing a bug shirt and had a headnet... but usually this time of year I feel SWARMED. They're in your ears, your eyes, under the net, under your shirtsleeve cuffs. They do seem much milder to me this year. Two weeks ago near Pharaoh, we had bigger problems with mosquitoes!

ReplyDeleteI hate the blackflies, but am glad I'm not a horse! The heat has brought the horseflies out in swarms and they are horrific.
